Buyer Critiques
With apologies to Amazon, I was in an emergency right after my last sump pump failed (soaked carpet) and had to get a backup program ASAP. As such I purchased this unit at a nearby retailer...
I will freely admit the installation of this combination unit was straight forward and fairly hassle-free. Upon installation, the main pump functioned fairly well.
Yet, when I disconnected AC power and tested the battery backed-up pump by filling the sump pit with a garden hose, it switched on as needed but it did not take suction and pump out any water.
With a small web investigation, I found the will need to drill a 1/8" hole instantly amongst the discharge of the back-up pump and the check valve. The installation directions did not mention this, so I surmise it was merely an error in the manufacturing of the unit. The Basement Watchdog net web site does have an FAQ entry on this topic.
I need to mention - as installed in my property, each pumps need to pump against approx. 12' head.
It installed fairly easy in spite of an absolute rats nest of wires. Nothing but plastic everywhere. The major pump works nicely, moved a bunch of water quickly. Quite quiet as nicely. When I tested the back up pump, would not function. Float switch worked fine, pump ran, did not move any water. Took it apart, check valve was ok, pump alone would pump water, but as soon as it was below any type of pressure, absolutely nothing. Referred to as tech support, they mentioned it most most likely did not have a vent hole, so stated they would send me a single. Went house and checked, it had a vent hole fine. One other hour of testing and the conclusion is apparent: the backup pump is a weak tiny pump that does not even come close to pumping at 10' of head pressure as it states right on the box. Took it back and got my income back. An additional issue, the alarm volume is particularly low.
Steer clear of this piece of junk and go with a superior brand
