Consumer Critiques
Not substantially to write about this product. It works like it is supposed to. However I did not see any info relating to the depth of water needed to activate this switch. I purchased this item due to the fact it was less high-priced than the lighter duty model. Even so, it desires about four" of water to function and my tank is not that deep. I had to go to the lighter duty version the RS-5LL which only wants 1 three/4" of water to operate. Of course, I cannot return the very first switch considering it is covered with spooge from the tank. The information related to the working depth is buried in the ownder's manual and not obvious in the product description.
This is a great item for all intents and purposes. I have nothing negative to say, yet one demands to be aware of the operating depth prior to buying.
I have two of these switches on major dog six pumps in drain pits outside my back door. 1 pump is six inches larger than the other supplying back up and added capacity if necessary. Immediately after four years one particular switch failed, filling with water. Perhaps the winter freeze did it in. Not its fault and a thing that would not take place if used in a basement. The preferred function of this switch is it is not affected by debris such as twigs or leaves as the mercury float switches are.
